Capturespace and CaptureCast Pro: Which One is for You?

Lectures and lecturers are like snowflakes – no two are the same. Every classroom and every instructor has their ways of teaching and reaching out to their students. Content and needs change depending on the type of class, subject, or environment you are in, and it’s important to identify what each environment requires for success. As such, there are solutions that fit every situation.

For instructors who only need one or two video inputs and their voice, software-based solutions like Kaltura Capturespace work great. These programs are set up on your personal computer, and they utilize either built-in cameras and microphones or devices plugged into them. The software identifies the equipment, and allows you to select the quality and organization of the capture, as well as the buttons to start and stop captures.

It is important to note that by using a personal computer, you may experience issues related to the computer’s processor speed. These can be attributed to anything, including HD recording or a program running in the background which could potentially affect the capture. While it is not always the case, the possibility of forgetting to close a program is always real.

CaptureCast Pro is ready to take on anything you can throw at it.

With CaptureCast Pro, the unit lives in the classroom and is already hooked up. These units are configured to match their environment and equipment, and are capable of handling up to six devices at once. Classrooms that require a multi-perspective view, such as auditoriums or classes where students often speak, are able to utilize multiple cameras to get the exact shots needed.

While the most common video devices are cameras, CaptureCast Pro is equipped to handle any video output device, including document cameras, microscopes, ultrasound machines, and much more. Rather than utilize the USB or HDMI ports on your computer, CaptureCast Pro hardware is built for what you have, including HDMI, HD-SDI, SD-SDI, 3G-SDI, VGA, and DVI.

CaptureCast Pro machines aren’t built to fit everyone’s classrooms. For some, personal capture through your computer work perfectly, and there is no need for the advanced solutions that Cattura provides. However, for those who have a need for multi-perspective high definition video for more than two or three devices, we’re there to make sure nothing is missed.
